Does anyone know if real VNC will allow me to connect to the remote computer
if that computer has gone into standby mode because it has been left ? Also
will the screen saver cause a problem?
Thanks

VNC uses a port to pass screen, keyboard and mouse movements between 2
computers. If the host is in standby mode, this will not work - unless
the VNC activity can wake the PC up. This should be configurable on the
host PC. Basically you need to have the host wake up on port activity.

As for the screen saver, this should not cause a problem, but as soon as
you get connected, the remote mouse movement or keyboard activity will
drop the screen saver out.

Personally, I leave screensaver off. You can also tell VNC host to
disable the screen background while a remote connection is being made.
This will speed up data being transferred to the remote for faster
response times. If I am going to be away from the PC, I just turn the
monitor off on the computer - no need for a screen saver :)

Thanks
Do you know how I get the computer to wake up on port activity?
Is this an option within VNC?
I have had a bit of a look on the internet for this but not quite found what
I am looking for.

Look at this page for help with Wake-On-LAN (WOL). Is an OS and/or network interface card (NIC)
driver/firmware issue...and has nothing to do with VNC...

Had a bit of a read of this.

Is this going to work? As I understand it I am not using a network card I am
just using my broadband internet connection which is through the USB port.
Isn't the network card something which is added to the computer AFTER buying
it - it doesn't come with on installed does it?
