I can't get my 5555 to start up. All I get when I do a hard reset is
a bright screen flash along with and quick flash of the indicator
lights.

I decided to plug in the battery charger and leave it for a while to
see if that was it. The charging light on the Ipaq never flashed and
after a half and hour I took it off the charger and the battery was
HOT (it made the rest of the unit hot too, of course.)

I don't know where to go from here. If I can't get it going is there
someplace I can send it in to, or is HP the only choice there?

It's not in warranty.

Thanks,

Scott

Have you tried a Hard Reset? I've seen this happen when I loaded a vpn
client on once. To do a hard reset hold the outter buttons (calendar &
iTask) while pressing the reset button on the bottom. Be warned that you
will loose all data unless it's in the ipaq file store or on a memory card
(sd,cf, etc)

Have you tried to remove the battery for 10 to 15 seconds, replace it and
then turn the device on?

I have tried multiple hard resets. All I get is a flash of the screen
and indicator lights. I have tried it in various combinations of
removing and replacing the battery etc.

Sounds like you will have to contact HP support and have them take a look at
it.

I think something similar happened once and I called HP. They had me
do something like hold all the buttons for a hard reset for a long
time and then put it in the cradle. Something like that....

Anyone know of a "super combination" that will get a frozen Ipaq to
recover?

Also, is there any place to send a problem Ipaq other than HP?

Had this exact same thing with a 5450 and returned it to HP under warranty.
They replaced the mainboard.

have to recharge it connecting a battery of 12 volt to battery's HP
poles...then I succeded in recharge it again and it works..

Http://www.ipaqrepair.com would be the one you're looking for, I think.

I tried calling ipaqrepair about 10 times in the last couple of days
and only get an answering machine. I sent an email and got no
response. I gave up and am sending it in to HP.
