I have an iPaq 3845. Shortly after I upgraded the OS to 2003, the backlight
stopped functioning...any ideas?

Might be just age. None of my iPAQs have aged well (3650 == RIP, 3850 ==
backlight dying, 2215 = RIP).

I upgraded my 3850 from 2002 to 2003 when the upgrade became available. Its
backlight started dying a few months later. I don't think it it related to
the upgrade.

First question .... your PPC2003 ROM is official? Non-official copies may to have problems ....
- Try return to PPC2002
- see the backlight
- then upgrade again!
