Password adding characters

I have setup my VPN on my Ipaq 1945 and try to connect. It says to check the username/password. I go and check it and it adds three characters into the password when I save it.

Please advise!!!

There are no additional characters added... since it might be possible
for someone observing that you are asked to enter a specific number of
characters to deduce the password you are using, the number of "*" no
longer reflects the length of _your_ password.
