Could someone explain why someone would want to have a
very low quality camera in their ppc/cell phone
when if I want to take a photo I can grab my high
quality digital camera and take the photo?

And with my digital camera not only do I have extra features
like a printer that produces high quality prints on the spot,
a zoom lense, quality that is supperior to any cell phone or
ppc camera. I know convenience of having it all in device is
nice but why use a 1 megapixel camera in the cell phone whene
i can use my 5 megapixel digital camera?

Also with my digital camera I can print the picture
instantly with the press of a button, I have yet to find
a cell phone that does that.

I would add some retailers have signage posted saying "no photography
on
these premises."

The idea is apparently they are trying to avoid having the comepetition
come
in and note the prices on a lot of items.

I would add retailers can set their own rules, it is their
property.

Also around here if the store has CCTV or something else to
watch the store they must post signs to that effect warning
that video is in use. It could be argued that stores
are violating that law if they allow you to use your camera
in the store.

You know, I'm one of the staunchest opponents of having cameras in
everything, for several of the issues posted. However, I tend to argue that
you should have the choice in high quality phones and PPCs, not that the
cameras, shouldn't be there, or are silly. I have in fact used my inferior
phone camera quite effectively. We occasionally do a bit of engineering and
planning on a white board. Usually there are multiple colors and it is
pretty jumbled. Once we have it all down, typically someone would try to
capture it on paper with a pencil. I have taken a snapshot with my crummy
1.3Mp smartphone camera and mailed it to all the attendees. It is perfectly
legible and doesn't miss a thing, colors preserved, very accurate and saves
time.

So while you may not see value in a cheap camera, having one around without
having to carry a second device can be helpful. I'd just like to see the
option of buying the device without the camera, but with all the other
features, that are important to me.
