Any suggestions?

PPC Crashed, black screen, nothin else - and finally reset to factory
settings.

Thankfully, I had backed it all up.

The activsynch now will not restore saying it was created on a different
device - but its the say PPC?

Errr... any suggestions?

When you do a hard reset the name of your Pocket PC must be changed when you
make a new partnership with ActiveSync.

ActiveSync puts the backup files in a file named "backup.stg". This file is
found under the name that was used for the Pocket PC at the time you did the
backup. You will find this file under:
C:/Documents and Settings/Administrator/Application
Data/Microsoft/ActiveSync/Profiles/

Copy the "backup.stg" file to the folder for the current name of the Pocket
PC. Now you will be able to Restore using ActiveSync.

Good luck!

That error message can be misleading. It appears not only when the device
is different, but also when some PPC settings are not the same as in the
backup.

Try setting 3 things to what they were when you did the backup:
1. Home time zone
2. Visiting time zone
In the time zones, the PPC looks at both the name and time, so GMT London
is not the same as GMT Casablanca. Also if it was summer time when you
did the backup, then set the date to a summer time date.
3. Settings, system, regional settings
Depending on the ROM from your hardware manufacturer these may not get set
during the boot up sequence after a hard reset.

These settings will have no effect until you restart the system.
