Hi,

Most PPC USB interfaces are client only, not host. Thus, most PPCs cannot
connect to hardware such as a HD. The USB interface is designed to connect
the PPC to a PC, not to another client device.

A.) You can't, at least by USB on non-host devices unless some trick
hardware comes on the market.

B.) If you have wifi wireless, Asus has a wireless hard drive enclosure that
will allow you to acccess the drive in that manner. There are other
wireless hard drives on the market, but more are on their way.

C) Bluetooth drives would be possible, but I have not seen one yet.

You are right - the Ratoc actually made it to market. I had been
anticipating the twin Paradox version, but it was just vaporware. Same for
the JVC Pocket PC, which touted built in hosting USB ports (I hated to see
these not make it).

For those interested, one place of many where you can buy it:

http://www.cdw.com/shop/products/default.aspx?EDC=633606

Of course, it is not cheap ($149), but the writeup looks sweet. From the
page:

"Add USB 1.1 Host downstream port to your PDA. CFU1U is the only one and
fast USB Host Adapter CF card in the world. It works on Compaq iPAQ and Dell
Axim, expands your application and ideas of PDA based systems. Attach bar
code scanners, magnetic stripe card readers, keypads or other USB HID
devices. It supports USB Flash Memory reader/writers, USB Flash Memory
sticks, Zip, Mo and other removable storage devices. The card allows to
save, restore big data from/to your PDA, to exchange data simply with
Windows-based PCs. It is easy to install, fully compatible with Windows
Microsoft ActiveSync. 100mA USB Bus-Power is available at the USB port, so
you don't need AC adapters for low-power USB devices such as keypads, flash
memory reader/writers, bar code scanners or USB flash memory sticks. Low
power consumption allows long battery life."

So, to the original poster, if you have a CF card slot this might be a
possiblity. Obviously I have no expereince with this device, but someone
here may.

Thanks MDBJ.

>How can i conect an external hard drive to my axim x30?

See here:

http://iplay.40th.com/faq_flac.html

for a little bit on a remote drive that needs no drivers,
can be connected by wi-fi radio or ethernet cable, and,
well, here's an excerpt:

A .flac can be put in a regular playlist, along with .mp3, .m4a,
etc. However, I would expect .flac files to be put on an external
(and portable) hard drive, such as the Asus WL-HDD 2.5 NAS (Wi-Fi
/ethernet connection), connected to a VGA PDA (QVGA will do),
powered from an external source, and ... The Asus box is, in a
word, wonderful (currently, for Guest account access it is since
it will not authenticate any win32 user account). The 1.2.3.0
firmware goes to 160 GB ... working WPA ... (very cool)

If you have a spare 2.5" drive around, total cost is around $80,
delivered. Newegg and Mobile Planet have it. It has a problem
with accounts other than Guest, however. ...(always something)
