Buying a Cell Phone on eBay

My wife is interested in a Samsung Sunburst....AT&T requires you to have a data/message plan. Phones are listed on eBay that say you can just move your SIM card over from your old phone and will be able to use the built in capabilities of the Sunburst, just no internet or messaging. Is this true?? Will the phone function by just placing our current AT&T SIM card in it??

This is all new to me and I don't want to waste my money....HELP!

On more advanced phones the service provider (AT&T) may need to update your SIM (or download something to the phone) to work with the new phone. If the Sunburst is a model listed by AT&T that shouldn't be a problem.

As to whether you should trust what vendors on e-bay claim, you'll have to base that on previous experience.

You may have to get the new phone unlocked if it was originally provided by another phone company so add that to the cost unless it's specifically stated as being unlocked.
