Bluetooth pair problem

I have bluetooth 3.0 cell phone which was not able to pair with my 6years old laptop. bluetooth on the laptop is 2.0.

cell phone can search bluetooth neighborhood and find lots of devices except my laptop. the laptop can paire with my old bluetooth cell phone without any problems.

can anyone help me finger out what happened?

I can tell you 3.0 is backwards compatible.
