Can´t see the right resolution on my clone screen

Hello,
I ahve this laptop HP Elitebook 8440p and this screen HP LA2205wg.When i am trying to make a clone of my laptop i can´t go higher the 1680-900 on HP monitor (usualy should be 1680-1050).I update drivers but nothing the smae problem please help ASAP!

when you clone the lcd on your laptop the signal that is sent to the video out is the same exact one that goes to your laptop lcd. So, expecting it to somehow end up different resolution... illogical

i try to clone my laptop image on monitor so i dont see a reason why it shouldn´t work.grpahic card on second display it should appear 1680-1050 not 1680-900

the internal max resolution is 1600x900 so if you clone the external will be the same look at the link to find answer from hp http/h18004.www1.hp.com/products/quickspecs/13520_na/13520_na.html

When you clone to an external monitor, you can change the resolution and it doesn't have to match your main monitor. skyrfox's only problem is just as scout_03 has said, his main monitor supports a maximum resolution of 1600x900. But you can have both monitors using different resolutions simultaneously.

On my HP Elitebook 8460P if I make the Laptops screen primary my LA2306x will be only display at 1600X900, but once I make the LA2306x primary is will display at 1920X1080 and the laptops screen displays at 1600X900. In short make the external screen primary.

That's odd, my mom has an HP laptop with the Intel Media Accelerator HD GPU and it can display 1920x1080 on an external tv as the secondary monitor while displaying 1600x900 on the laptop's monitor as the primary.

Thanks guys i found the solution in the morning checking maximum resolution of my laptop and resolution of monitor.In clone mode the laptop don´t suport resolution of monitor and is normal to have this problem if i didn´t check resolution in both.Just in extended mode when i am working separately on screens i can put what resolution i want.thanks a lot guys and i apreciate alot your effort

it has been a long time since I've tried, but clone mode is typically used when you hook up a projector and unless this was changed in win7 the resolution is the same as primary screen (I guess there's a possibility win7 finally figured out that laptop screen size is not always a supported resolution of the projector and ability to change that has been put in)

typically when you hook a monitor, the laptop recognizes that it's a monitor and just extends the desktop to it, that way you can configure in what orientation the second display is in relation to primary one and you can also change the resolutions.

Can you please confirm that it's in fact cloned instead of extended that allows to change resolution on external?

Well you may have been right in the first place. I may have made a generalized statement as now I can't even remember the last time I tried to clone. I may have been thinking about extended mode instead. So, you have my apologies as I think you may have been right in this situation.
