Hey im spending bout £150 on a new card, and im leaning towards the 6800GS. The two cards that i am looking at are:

This also here

or This also here.

So which of the two? Both the same? I woulc try to unlock the extra 4 pipes, and clock the card aswell, so which would/might be better?

Or, for that price range is there a better card for AGP?

Thanks.

I've read about the PNY Verto 6800GS and here are my comments:

1) Pros: Huge feature set, excellent value in 3d performance, dual monitor and HDTV support
2) Cons: No extras included, Video In not included

The Bottom Line: The PNY Verto 6800GS PCI-Express video card maximizes the the 3d performance you can get in a "under $250" video card. Also a great choice for a home theater PC.

If you have a motherboard with a PCI-E slot, the PCI-E card will be better. If you have a motherboard with an AGP slot, the AGP card will be better. However, they should both unlock to 16 pipes, and overclock to maybe 500/1200.

So no other card for that price range thats better?

And anyone got any experiance with unlocking them? Are they normally damaged pipes or a case of locking them?

Would it be worth the extra £20 for the x850XT, even though it doesnt have SM3 as seen here?

The X850 XT will beat the 6800 GS is pretty much every title.

True it doesn't have SM 3.0, but that's not as big a deal as you hear, especially since the AGP 6800 GS doesn't really have the power to run heavy SM 3.0 class effects like HDR (openEXR).

I just got my pci-e x850xt and it gives me 3X the performance of my nvidia 6600 non gt 128MB. I got mine for 169 bucks. Very good deal!

Wrong.

Only the AGP 6800GS is based on the NV40 core and can unlock. The PCIe version cannot unlock at ALL.

Don`t Even Think About 6800 Series If Can Buy X850XT ... The X850XT Can Beat Every Single 6800 Series Card In Almost Every Game ...

A definate X850XT vote from me. That's a good price compared to other cards on that site, considering X850XT AGP is $300+ in the USA now. But for you it's priced closer to a 6800GS than the 7800GS making it an easy recommendation.

Okay, so it looks like the x850XT is the clear choice, and worth the extra £10-20, but in 6 months time when i get a new rig will it have held its value well? How much u rekon i could sell it for (probs on ebay)?
