Western digital hard drive in device manager

Hello,
My WD essential hard drive has been asking for the unlock password and says that it needs the password to unlock the hard drive. I have never set up any username/password for my hard drive and now I cannot access it.

Post a screenshot of what the prompt for the username/password looks like. It's possible this is just a virus. You may want to try accessing the drive with a machine booted to a ubuntu live cd or something similar and see if that works.

Hi Tomatthe, thanks for the reply and your suggestions. I will try with Ubuntu. But what is a Ubuntu live CD? Is it a bootable cd/an antivirus software? I went to a repair shop few days back and the said the hard drive had lots of bad sectors and that they could not repair or retrieve that data. My hard drive is formatted for Macs only. So i am having a hard time here.
Can i download Ubuntu live CD?

Yes its a live bootable cd, you should be able to read hfs from within ubuntu. If the drive is bad that is probably your best shot.
