Need help to unlock L5 bridges on a xp1700+ JIUHB

Hello fellows , need a little help to unlock 12,5 limited multiplier


MOB: Ak32-l kt266
Ram: sdram 133 cas-3 ( 512mb ddr-333 soon )
XP1700+ JIUHB 0311 UPMW (1,6v) gray core



Actually I’m running it at 12,5 X 144 = 1800MHZ (xp2200+) rocked solid
45ºC idle 49ºC full

But I do feel I can go higher even with my old MOB ( I can’t afford a new one now)



The question is how should I unlock the L5 bridges?

Actual 11.0X--C--C--C--C--C 1700+ original

Should I put

13.5X--O--C--O--C--O 2200+, 2800+/166MHz
or
15.0X--C--C--C--O--O 2400+ ?




anyone already did it before? any sugestion?

I set 15x with a XP1700+ JIUHB 0302 DUT3C with an even older KT133A mobo, Epox 8KTA3PRO. I originally had no trouble with the new default of 15x and with FSB at 140 Mhz I was overclocked at 2100 Mhz (2600+).

Some people have tried 15x and failed, especially with the newer 1.5 V XP1700+ (DLT3C, the "L" means 1.5 v). Seems their systems would not get through the inital POST stages with the default voltage.

I suggest 13x but try any multiplier you want. Be prepared to mod the L11 bridges to boost the default voltage to overcome the above problem.

If you get your mod'd CPU POST you might should be able to change the multiplier in BIOS but you run into the multiplier remappings.

Most people find 7x remaps to 15x, 7.5x-->22x, 8x-->16x, 8.5x-->16.5x, 9x-->17x, 9.5x-->18x. 19x, 20x, 23x and 24x are also available but you would need to run 100Mhz FSB because at 133 Mhz the overclock would be too high for an XP1700+

Most boards will POST at the default multiplier (the one you set) but many legacy boards run into issues when you try to change the multiplier in BIOS with high bus speeds (133 mhz and higher). 100 Mhz bus usually is no problem.

but I will cut the L5 bridges to 15X, using a stilet (or a shap blade)and an eye lupe.


A friend of my did the L5 cut and got no trouble with his kt133a MOB, I hope I had the same luck



then I hope to set the FSB to 140 x 15 = 2100




But my bios has an option (auto detect DIMM/pci clock) does is lock the pci frequency ? what program can I use to measure the PCI frequency ?
(I already try sisSandra, hwinfo, Cpuid)

I hope you meant to say the L3 bridges (4th and 5th).

Which KT133A mobo does your friend have and what multipliers was he able to select?

With my Epox 8KTA3PRO. Mine would only boot at the 15x I set. I could not change multipliers. 13x - 14x had boot timing errors, 16x and higher was too high an overclock on the default 1.6 volt. BIOS voltage settings don't take effect until somewhere in the BOOT process. (I never mod'd the L11 bridges).

The wire mods fixed some of my problems, letting me access the 14x multiplier. It's not clear if a default multiplier of 14x on the CPU would have worked just as well.

I missed your question.

As far as I could tell most programs only read the BIOS settings and don't actually measure the PCI clock.

I believe the overclocking utility SetFSB can read PCI speed (because SetFSB has to program the clock oscillator to work).

That friend of mine has a kt133-a MOB k7vta-pro and after L5 cutting and some fsb icrease it's running stable at 2100mhz


I'll try the SET-FSB



PS - I know people cutting L-5 bridges and ussing xp1700+ as 2400+ on old sis730 MOB.

Opps, now it works :)

Now I took the right version for my MOB


Really the pci and FSB clock work togheter!



This program is so cool can't wait to test it on my SIS630 MOBO and finally overclock its FSB, thks DUDE

I really like software overclocking (I use an older program, SoftFSB). Much easier to fine tune FSB speeds. No rebooting between tries. If you overclock to far and the system hangs, no problem. Just reboot and everything is back to normal.

With my old Tbird I used multiplier overclocking to run at 1333 Mhz (10 x 133). When I went into gaming mode I just bumped the bus up to 150 mhz pushing the CPU to 1500 Mhz. (Every bit you squeeze out of memory helps when you only have SDRAM).
