I was able to get on Xfinity with the app but now it won't let me even connect

With the Xfinity hotspot finder app I was able to get on wifi now it won't even let me connect and yes I did mess with the settings but can't remember exactly what I did

You don't 'need' the xfinity app to locate connections. You just need to access your phone's WiFi settings.

If, however, you prefer to use the app (and you are referring to changes you made to that app's settings) You could try uninstalling the app, restart the device, and then reinstall the app. It should resolve your problem.
