Help with desktop/monitor connection

I have an old Dell desktop (Dimension 2400) that I want to hook up to a screen in order to delete any personal files before I recycle it. What connection do I need to hook it up to a monitor? I have a Dell flatscreen monitor and also have a Targus docking station that I can use. I don’t believe I have the correct cord at home and don’t want to spend a lot, since this will most likely be the only time I am using it. I can give more details about the connections on desktop/monitor/docking station if need be. Thanks!!

for this Dell you will need a VGA cable like this:

would get a used one for about 0,50$ if possible

Which Dell flat screen monitor model is it or does it have a VGA connection?
