VPNs not working on Iphone

I use an Iphone 6s with the latest version of Ios, I also live in Australia. For some reason not a single VPN out of the many I have tried work on my phone. Basically I connect to the VPN and it indicates Im connected to both Wifi and VPN but literally nothing loads or works as if I am disconnected. BUT, Imessage still works with the VPNs on. Please help.
