*disclaimer* I know that this has been asked a few times by people, but i kind of want a more updated answer as the old forum posts were close to a year old that I've seen.
I currently own a fx 6300 cpu and a gtx 950, but I've been interested in buying the oculus. I was planning to get the gtx 1060 6gb edition from evga in a few weeks. I just do not know if it will run well in vr games. I'm not looking to get to top notch quality graphics, yet i still want to run smoothly at a reasonable quality. In addition, my cpu has been able to oc to 4.8 ghz in the past; it currently isn't as amd overdrive reset everything to normal upon installing. I also have 16gb of ram. Thank you :)

Solution
The FX-6300 will be adequate for the vast majority of current VR content, especially if you give it a little overclock. ASW means the Oculus Rift can run on considerably weaker hardware.

The hardware requirements posted by YoAndy are incorrect. Here are the real minimum specs:

Graphics card: NVIDIA GTX 1050 Ti/AMD Radeon RX 470 or above
Alternative graphics card: NVIDIA GTX 960 4 GB/AMD Radeon R9 290 or above
CPU: Intel i3-6100 / AMD Ryzen 3 1200, FX4350 or above
Memory: 8 GB+ RAM
Video output: Compatible HDMI 1.3-videooutput
USB-ports: 1 x USB 3.0-port and 2 x USB 2.0-ports
Operating system: Windows 8.1 or newer

Your FX 6300 will bottleneck the GTX 1060 and will not perform as intended with an Oculus Rift
Oculus Rift Processor Requirements
Minimum PC specs
Processor: Intel Core i5-4590 or AMD FX 8350 (equivalent or better)
Graphics card: NVIDIA GTX 970 or AMD Radeon R9 290 (equivalent or better)
RAM: 4GB or more.
Video output: One HDMI 1.4 or one DisplayPort 1.2.
USB: One USB 2.0.
OS: Windows 7 or newer.

Agreed, the 6300 will bottleneck a 1060 pretty good.
I would just stay where you are at.

1050ti is not enough of an upgrade to justify the cost and 1060 is paying for performance you cant use.
Best option is to save funds until you can get a coffee-lake or ryzen setup.
