How can I use Google to retrieve my info from an old phone

I chose transfer from phone instead of from Google

The only way you can get the info from the old device is if you had uploaded that devices info to your google account. If you did not, then you cannot get the information that way.

Also, if the phone doesn't work (the prior one) for some reason, there would be no way to get the information off of it.

However, if you had uploaded it to a google account, then you should be able to download it to any device as long as you log into that account.
