Finding the best gift to give the history buff in your life is tougher than trying to settle arguments over what started the American Civil War. History buffs love gifts that remind them of epic battles and past eras lost to time. These unique gifts will make any history buff happy for years to come.

23AndMe Genetic Testing Kit - $99

A history buff's best friend, the 23AndMe Genetic Testing Kit gives you a detailed breakdown of your global ancestry. With 23andMe, you can look deeper into your personal history to learn what percentage of your DNA comes from populations around the world, find your DNA relatives, learn about your matrilineal and patrilineal ancestors, and even see if some of your DNA comes from Neanderthals.

Europa Universalis IV - $39.99

The most in-depth and accurate historical simulator is back once again to chart the course of history. Despite its name, Europa Universalis IV lets you play as any number of civilizations from Europe and Asia (no New World civilizations, unfortunately). If you like charts, maps, diplomacy, political subterfuge, historical battles and more, this is the game for you.

The Things They Carried - $20.40

A classic work of American literature that has not stopped changing minds and lives since it burst onto the literary scene, "The Things They Carried" is a groundbreaking meditation on war, memory, imagination and the redemptive power of storytelling.

Battle Cry of Freedom: The Civil War Era - $33.31

James McPherson's fast-paced narrative fully integrates the political, social and military events that crowded the two decades from the outbreak of one war in Mexico to the ending of another at Appomattox. The book vividly recounts the momentous episodes that preceded the Civil War and then moves into a chronicle of the war itself.

Chrononauts - $16.04

Travel through time to fix it so you exist in Chrononauts. Play through history with your friends and family in this fun multiplayer solitaire-type card game. Each game is roughly 45 minutes, so it's a great for game night.

History Buffs are very difficult to buy for, because either they already bought the thing you were going to get them, or don't really know what to tell you when you ask them. Some folks are also very picky, especially if they do reenactments.

However, I do find that history nerds are also a little selfish. The love gifts if you can tie it easily to something about themselves. History events and their birthdays might be a good place to start.

Custom Birthday Book - $130.00: https://store.nytimes.com/products/the-custom-birthday-book

This one is a little rich for my blood, but that's because I can save that money by going to a local library and collecting the info myself.
