two I phones,one gets signal in NM the other won't

Both have the same area code, one was activated in TX the other in NM after an accident. The 1st phone can receive and make calls and text. The second one which was bought and activated in NM can only receive text part of the time. Back in TX both phones work fine . These are I phone 5's with stright talk carrier. We do not want to purchace another phone and not have it work while we are in NM.
Is this something I will just have to roll the dice on?

You should contact your carrier to determine if there is a problem with the iPhone in question. Good luck.
