There is no way to 'clean it up' without deleting images. However doing it from a phones gallery, if there are a lot of images, could be a nightmare. You may want to consider connecting the phone to a computer, via USB cord and then moving the images over to an empty folder on the computer. In there you can then much more easily organize the images. When you have sorted them all out, you can then copy them back to either the "Internal" storage of the phone or (if the phone has one) the SD card in the phone.

NOTE I say move to put them on the computer, which will clear them all off the device completely, making it clear of any and all images. Then only copy back to the device, this way you can save a copy on the computer, should you oh...
