"ditch the physical home button"... uh, yeah, they did that in 2015 with the very first LG V10. The V-series has never had a physical home button. Ok, sure, that's trendy now, but it even made sense back then when I bought my V10.

As for the dual displays, the main reason they're separate on the V10/V20 is that it's expensive to form LCD panels in odd shapes. If they really go OLED (and LG is one of the main OLED manufacturers, rumored to be a supplier for Apple's iPhone 8, but internally most of their effort has been on large panels), it's not as problematic to make an OLED panel that's not a perfect rectangle. So it could be a single display with the "dual" features done entirely in software.
