It would not work for you. Verizon is a CDMA carrier, while Simple Mobile is a GSM one. They are not interchangeable and you can't make a phone from one kind work on another.

You will either need to return the phone and get a phone that is from a GSM carrier, or change to a CDMA carrier. Before going 'the get a different phone' route, I would check with Simple to see what providers they accept phones from.

While they can't accept ones from Verizon, they can let you know what ones they do accept, so you don't go purchasing another one that won't work with them.

This answer is incorrect. While Simple Mobile (subsidiary of American Movil in Mexico and subsidiary of TracFone Wireless in the US) does utilize T-Mobile, a GSM based network, it also utilizes Verizon's CDMA 4G/LTE network. (TracFone itself subsidizes coverage from. T-Mobile, AT&T, Sprint & Verizon). So yes, Simple Mobile will most certainly work on a Verizon branded device. I am currently using a Simple Mobile prepaid plan on my Verizon branded Moto G4 Play (xt1609). Setup required a couple of APN edits but was otherwise extremely simple to initialize.
Moreover, all newer Verizon smartphones (which use 4G/LTE) are both CDMA & GSM. LTE is a GSM technology.
