i was wondering if you unlock the two cores in the AMD Phenom II X2 555 Black Edition how does it compare to the AMD Phenom II X4 965 Black Edition

You have a decent chance but I wouldn't nearly guarantee it. Nobody knows an exact chance but we have seen a lot of success as well as failures.

IF you need the performance of the quad then you should buy the 955 --- If you can get by with the dual cores then get the 555 and hope to get lucky and wind up with a quad -- but don't buy the 555 counting on it to be a quad as there are no quarantees and it is always possible that the 2 other cores are defective or unstable so don't base the decision on what to buy on it !! (sure it's nice if you get lucky but counting on it is just asking for dissapointment )
