Looking at the manual, it has the Advanced Clock Calibration (ACC) option so that is what allows you to unlock the disabled cores.

Just remember, not all of the X2's will work with the extra cores. It's a crap shoot. I got lucky with my X3 720 BE. It works flawlessly with all four cores and it's overclocked from 2.8 to 3.51 ghz (x14 to x17.5)

BTW, even though my sig says my motherboard has a 780g NB, that's incorrect! It's a 760! Go figure!

It you really want the quad core, then yes. I purchased the 720 X3 just because of the price. When I found out I could possibly unlock it, I searched for a board that would allow it, but I was not getting it because I might be able to unlock the core. I got it because 1) the price 2) it was a black edition which has an unlocked multiplier for OCing.

I believe the X4 955 has an unlocked multiplier, so you should be able to overclock that to get some excellent performance (even though it should perform great out of the box at stock settings).

You should have started your own thread rather than hijacking someone else's that's over a month old.

Have you considered that the 4th core might not unlock?
