Can't see files on my sdcard via Microsoft explorer when phone is attached to the laptop

I can see the files on my phone using android My Files app. When I attach the phone to the laptop, those files are not visible via Windows File Explorer. I can only see folders but not actual files

Hi, you can insert the phone memory card into card reader and then attach to computer to view your files. If this doesn’t work for you then transfer you files into another phone via Bluetooth or shareit and then connect another phone into your laptop to transfer the videos or pictures into laptop.

Thanks for replying. I finally figured out the Bluetooth option. Although its pretty slow i was able to copy my files from the phone to laptop. I didn't want to invest into a card reader to be honest.

I am still not clear on why these files are not visible. But at least for now i know how to transfer them.
