Unlocking cores isn't guaranteed anyway, more don't unlock than unlock.

If you want a quad core the only way to guarentee getting one is to buy one.

I have a PII 555 that did unlock to a quad and runs along @3.6ghz quite easily. Downside of unlocking is it messes up the monitoring progs as far as temps per core goes.

Some decide to pick up a triple core, at least if it doesn't unlock ypu still have 3 cores.

If you can afford it get a quad core like the PII 955/965 etc, they overclock easily with the unlocked multiplier, have the L3 cache and are guareenteed quad core performance.

If you don't mind ending up with a dual core and fancy a go at unlocking pick up a PII 555/560 and have a go.
