Replacing Acer Laptop Screen

I already looked at the laptop disassembly guide, but I still have some questions as to how to repair an LCD screen. My friend has an Acer Aspire M5-581T-6405 that he somehow managed to step hard enough to break the LCD to the point that 80% of it is black or some weird color and the rest is unrecognizable.

I assume replacing the LCD display would resolve his problem, but will any 15.6" WXGA LED backlit LCD display work?

I am also worried because I've only done a hard drive replacement on a laptop; I have never dealt with the display.
