MSI GE40 vs MSI GX70

Hello people.
I am looking for a new gaming laptop and I consider these two configurations.

1- MSI GE40 ( i7 4710HQ / GTX 850m 2GB GDDR5 / 8GB RAM / 1TB 7200rpm HDD ) => i7 wins by far, Available for 820 $

2- MSI GX70 ( A10 5750m / R9 m290x 2GB GDDR5 / 8GB RAM / 1TB 7200rpm HDD ) => r9 wins by far, Available for 910 $

I know a10 lets the r9 down a lot. But I don't think even a bottle-necked r9 is weaker than a free 850m.

Using this devise for gaming and some engineering ( mostly 2D ) software like Autocad 2D etc.
And the specs that I didn't mention are not important to me ( like display quality, size, weight etc. )

I would go with the gx70 due to the r9 gpu. It will make a huge difference in games as they focus on the gpu rather than the cpu.

yes actually but what do you think about a10 bottle necking r9?

It will depend on the game. If the game is heavily cpu based then you will run into trouble like skyrim. But if the game is optimised for a variety of hardware like gta, then the impact will reduce as I am sure there will be patches that sort this issue out.

What about dx12? Will slow CPU impact will be improved here?

Dx12 doesn't affect the cpu but the gpu. If the gpu supports it then you should see a performance increase.
