puk code HELP!!

i brought a phone in spain, with a spannish simcard. I dont know the number of it and now its asking me for a puk code. What do i do? will it work if i put an english sim into it

It might, unless it is locked to a carrier in Spain, in which case you'd have to call them to purchase an unlock code (this process is much easier in Europe, from what I understand). Even then, there is no guarantee that the phone is compatible with your service provider as it might only run on certain bands that your provider does not use. Hard to tell without more details.
