What type of phone is it?

You can call your carrier and they will block your phone via IMEI. If you had an iPhone you can go to www.icloud.com and after you sign in with your Apple ID, look for an "app" called Find My iPhone. If your iPhone is connected to the Internet, there you can:

Send a sound so you can find it if it's in your house, or in a friend's house
Wipe all of yor data
Lock it so no one can use the cellphone (but you can bypass this if you find your phone with a password you create).

Find my iPhone works well on apple products but if it's not an Apple one you should call your carrier company.
