Hi there.

I had some problems with my Sony Vaio recently and Sony changed the motherboard (laptop was still in the warranty period).

Today I tried to get a fresh start and tried to get the factory settings. I ran Recovery mode in Vaio Care, skipped the rescue disk and got this information: "An error occurred while executing an application. Cannot use this Recovery Media for this computer. Confirm the model type."

I have Sony Vaio VPCSB3N9E. HDD works fine and apart from new motherboard I haven't experienced any problems. And, to be honest, I haven't used Vaio Care very much. With Vaio I got original Windows 7.

Do you have any ideas how can I get the factory settings on my computer?

Thanks.

I know that with HPs, whenever the motherboards are replaced, they must be "tattooed", otherwise the recovery software will not work. I wasn't aware that Sony was doing that as well. Looks like you will have to contact Sony.
