USB Device -smartphone- not detected when plugged in. Dell 3847, Win 8.1, Galaxy S3.

Old system would detect phone when I plugged it into USB and open as a new drive. My new Dell doesn't detect that I've plugged in a new device.

It does detect when other USB devices are plugged in/unplugged but doesn't detect when phone is plugged in. I've installed the Samsung USB driver. Powered off, rebooted, tried starting with and without phone plugged in. Nothing seems to make the Dell detect the phone as a USB device. Thanks for any help

I would suspect that it's either a faulty cable or your USB drivers need to be installed. Try using the device with a different cable and see if it works.
