how do i get off of safe mode on my Sony Xperia

My Sony Xperia is on safe mode and I tried everything people have said on the internet. I tried the volume up + power button. I tried turning the phone off and restarting it. I tried taking my battery and sim card out for 20 seconds and I'm not sure if this has anything to do with it but my volume down button doesn't work. It shows the volume sign crossed over and it shows how much
volume is on. None of those things have worked that I tried, I even uninstalled all of the apps I had downloaded and I wiped my phone. Nothing has worked so if you know how to do it PLEASE help me!

There should be a tiny hole on the back of the handset. Straighten a paper-clip and push it into that hole, it should force it to shutdown.
Then restart it in the normal way.
