In theory, the more powerfull the system is, the more heat it will generate the shorter the lifespan of the components can be. In practice, the fast laptops, especially those designed for gaming by good companies, are made with proper cooling to prevent those issues.

There were many laptops with onboard video that have a history of failing. It's more of a general rule than something you can say like "this laptop will last 8 years because it's slower".

I have laptops with pro video cards that last as long as those without.

ASUS is a good brand to get.

The top of the line gaming machine with the most powerfull processors will have more cooling technology built in like multiple fans and large vents for air flow. That being the biggest factor is how the computer is used. Playing the most powerfull games where the power of the graphics card is used and even overclocked. Today's systems are built to conserve energy and even the systems with discrete cards still have the integrated card and are able to conserve thus saving the heat. I imagine a laptop with only integrated graphics doing a spreadsheet will run about the same temperature with a laptop with a discrete card. Its the things you can't do with the integrated card that generate the heat.
