I need a great all around android tablet that I can take with me to school and type papers on, and also use around the house for media consumption, gaming, internet browsing, and social media. I want to spend around $300 or less and I want the best bang for my buck. I was originally considering getting a Windows tablet for office, but then I realized how overpriced they are.

Please recommend me a great Android tablet that's pretty new, can perform well for my needs, and is preferably 8 -10 inches, but also doesn't break the bank.

Thanks!

Solution
probably the nexus 10... i'd say a kindle fire hd (10")... however if basic andriod is iffy for productivity stuff, a kindle is far far worse.

the nexus 7 is generally considered the best "low cost" android tablet around... I have one myself, it's fine for what i do with it, but i'm not sure i'd type any papers on it. maybe with a bluetooth keyboard... otherwise it works fine.

Sadly my nexus 7 is basically religated to "oh yeah i also have that" status, because my ipad3 sorta destroys it, and would do exactly what you're looking for. of course it's also like $600 so it's a bit outside your budget

Yeah I have some experience with that tablet, and it's great, but I am really wanting something with a bigger screen.

the bigger screens come with a much bigger pricetag. the best tablet under 300 i can think of is probably the galaxy tab 3 (8 inch); i've used it. it's nice. probably not worth the premium over a nexus 7... but it's definitely nicer in some respects.

The Nexus 7 (7-Inch, 32 GB, Black) would be a great choice , but unfortunately it is just 7 inches and you wanted a little bigger tablet.

I implore you to go for the Dell Venue 8 Pro 64 GB Tablet (Windows 8.1), it has similar performance to the nexus 7 with a quad core processor, 2 GB RAM, it has a bigger storage (64 GB Flash Memory) and importantly, it has windows 8.1 which I think you will need. This will allow you to use Microsoft office type and edit documents. With the android tablets you would have to use open office which is not so good as office words. It is also bigger than the nexus 7 ; having an 8 inches display.
Sold for $274.62, see HERE:

I wouldn't get a dell venue... Its the only windows 8 tablet i have to troubleshoot on a monthly basis in my job. there is something seriously wrong with that product line. of the 4 venues one of our clients have, 3 of them have had their motherboards replaced by dell due to product defect, and 2 of the "replaced" motherboard tablets are suffering from the same issues again. 3 lemons out of 4 is pretty high problem rate..
and that client (due to the prolonged and constant issues with those tablets) has basically shelved them in favor of real laptops and ipads.
