one dish, one LNB for all sats question

Is there a specific type of LNB I can use on a 30-36" dish that will pick up
Ku Band sats and Ku DSS sats like Nimiq 1, 2 and Echostar? basically, an LNB
that would switch between linear Ku and Circular Ku as needed? I'd like a
single dish with a motor that would give me all the sats (Galaxy,T5 etc.)
plus anything unencrypted on Nimiq or Echostar ?? Is this possible? as I
understand the LNB for Ku is linear and the DSS ones are circular? If this
is not possible, do you just install a 2nd DSS circular LNB to the dish? or
do you have to install a 2nd dish and use a Diseqc switch?

There is no one LNBF being sold that will do both. You will have to
somehow attach both types to the dish.

+++++++++++++++++

You can just attach a circular LNBF to the side of the linear LNBF. Then
use a disesq switch or use 2 coaxes for the 2 LNBF's. The dish heading
will have to be skewed a bit for the LNBF that is not at the prime
location but it should work fine. I have such an arrangement and it works
great. I have to aim the circular LNBF 3.5 degrees east of where it is
supposed to be but I get a signal strength of 80 and a quality of 98% on
the strong satellites that are meant to be picked up by an 18" dish.

I am long-time subscriber to DirecTV but I am planning to switch over to
DishNetwork before long. DishNet has quite a few different satellites and
I have become convinced that I will be able to use a single 90cm dish for
my Ku-band FTA feeds and DishNet.

Good Luck.

If the satellites you're interested are within a 40 degree range, ex: 81 -
121
(Nimiq, ExpressVu, DishNet, FTA on T5, AMC4, etc) you might find the
Torroidal dish products from http://www.multilnbdish.com worth looking at.

They can be a challenge to get aligned, so if you want help from the
manufacturer, don't get one without the WaveFrontier logo. I inadvertently
ordered a 'clone' and had an extensive 'learning' process before I finally
got it aligned properly. I've got 8 LNB's mounted on it and it sure beats
having 8 small dishes mounted on the roof.

...... or buy a $90 motor, spend a couple of hours installing and aiming
(less if you have meters) and have one dish, two lnbfs and able to cover
full arc.

can you not pick up Nimiq or Echostar with a regular Ku LNB (linear) ?

You can usually can receive the audio channels from the circular polarized
satellites with a linear lnbf, but rarely have I observed the reception of a
video signal.

I've got a Fortec 75cm dish with the Universal LNBF 9750-10600Mhz I believe
and I'd like to attach another DSS LNB to the dish. Is there some sort of
adapter to do this?
