I read all the posts here and didn't feel like my question was answered
exactly so please bare with me if this has been asked before. I have not
bought a ReplayTV yet but this is what I would like to do. I have a
wireless network and all I want to do is record shows on the replayTV and
then get them to my computer some how. then use pinnacle Studio 8 to edit,
and burn to DVD. From what I read here it seems like it is possible to
connect the RTV to the network to update the show schedule. Is it possible
to send the recorded show video files to my pc? if so what are the file
types? mpeg2? thanks for any help or links. Steve. p.s. I have t v
tuner card that allows me to tape shows to my hdd but i thought the video
quality would be better taping to a RTV type device and using those files

Yes. Replay seems to be the only one with that feature (Yes, there's
TiVo but that's an extra-cost option).

They're MPEG, but a little different. Only certain programs can use
them. There's one (editor) at http://www.womble.com/vcr-text.htm Note
that these things are CPU-intensive and a fast computer will really
help. I'm not sure about Pinnacle. I tried it once and didn't like the
editor.

Using the Replay is better. Digitizing is a real-time process, which
is subject to interferance from any interruptions. Anything else
running on the computer (including Windows itself) can (and often
will) mess up the recording. I've used the Replay several times for
getting things from VHS to the computer, then recording to VCD or DVD.
