Hello All:

I don't know if this is the proper place to post this question, but I thought I
would ask.

HERE'S MY PROBLEM: I am a U.S. resident who bought a (legal) Bell ExpressVU
Canadian dish service. I have installed the Bell ExpressVU system and aimed my
new satellite dish perfectly. I am getting close to a 100 percent signal
strength (between 98 & 100 percent on Bell Express satellite #91). I have even
gone so far as to cut down some small tree limbs that were about 30 feet in
front of the dish. There are now NO trees or buildings in front of the dish.

I am gettting PERFECT sound and I am receiving all my channels...BUT...the
picture is horribly grainy. You know how a satellite system's picture starts to
look during heavy rain? Well, my picture looks like that all the time. It
doesn't get any worse OR better...it's just the same awful grainy picture all
the time.

I have talked this over with technical support and have tried moving the dish
and re-booting the system...nothing works.

One more thing: I have the Bell ExpressVU 3120 system, if that makes any
difference.

Has anyone else experienced this problem, and were you able to fix it? PLEASE
HELP! THANKS!

How is your receiver connected to your TV? Is it connected by the coax
cable, RCA jacks or the S-video cable? The 75 ohm coax will give the worst
picture, RCA plugs next, with S-video giving you the best. If you are
using coax cable from the TV to the receiver be sure all the connections
are tight. Also be sure the cables aren't looped across AC power cords, and
keep the cable as short as possible. Also if using the coax cable try
changing the channel that your TV is tuned to (you will also have to switch
the output channel on the receiver).

By the way, low signal level from the dish to the receiver won't cause a
grainy picture, nor will the dish being miss pointed. The signal will
either be there or it won't. If the signal is low you may get pixelization
or freezes but the picture won't be grainy. Good luck.

My receiver is connected to my TV with a short (4 foot) Monster Cable coax type
cable.

Actually, I should have been more specific with the description of my picture
quality. It is not really "grainy" -- it IS pixellized, very heavily.
"Grainy" was really the wrong word for me to use. It is definitely a
pixelization problem.

Any further help will be MUCH appreciated.

You didn't mention what your signal strength was.
I don't have a Bell receiver but there are a couple things I can think of.

Be sure the receiver has good air flow so it's not over heated. Excess heat
can effect the performance.

Make sure your cables from the dish are in good shape, no splits or lose
connections, that would allow stray RF to effect the signal (microwave
ovens etc).

Install a inline passive amp. This will boost your signal level. Buy an
outdoor one and install it close to the dish.

Replace the LNB. (you also didn't mention if the problem occurs on all the
channels or just some).

Suspect a bad LNBF, bad coax fitting or last a bad IRD.

Sorry, I'm not familiar with all of the abbreviations. I know what an LNBF is,
but what is an IRD?

Integrated receiver decoder...aka the receiver.
