A Replay is like a Tivo. You can buy one here:

http://www.digitalnetworksna.com/replaytv/default.asp

What satellite do you have? Dish offers its own Tivo-like box, but I
prefer Replay over Dish's.

replay TV is a computer controlled digital video recorder.
It has a computer harddrive for storing tv shows that you want
recorded. It does many wonderful things to make tv viewing more
enjoyable. Wonderful things such as skip over commercials, pause live
tv, quick replay of a few seconds to catch what you just missed such
as dialog, quick skip forward, fast forward, ect. ect. ect.

The hard drive will save approximately 1 hour tv program for 1gig of
harddrive space. I have 160gig harddrive in mine, so it will store
about 160 hours of tv programs.

It will transfer show to your computer if you like using DVArchive
software which will act like replaytv on your home computer.

Oh, and did I mention, it is very easy to program and use.
The built in TV Guide makes it incredibly "EASY".
It is far superior to video cassette recorders.

You're question actually doesn't make a lot of sense at face value.

'Is ReplayTV like a Tivo for Cable TV' - *TiVo* is TiVo for cable TV.

There are different model TiVos. DirecTV sells integrated units which
are DirecTV receivers with integrated TiVo - and those only work with
DirecTV. But there are also standalone units branded by TiVo,
Pioneer, and Toshiba (and older units from Sony and Phillips that are
no longer made) which record from any analog input - cable, antenna,
satellite (using an external tuner), etc.

If you have DTV with DirecTiVo you're probably better off getting a
standalone TiVo for cable since it'll have the same basic interface
and features (actually the standalone units have some features DTV
hasn't added yet) that you're familiar with.

See http://www.tivo.com/1.1.1.10.asp for a comparison of the different
models. Also, Toshiba has a couple of TiVo/DVD-RW boxes coming out in
August that will be less expensive than the Pioneer TiVo/DVD-RW and
have a few more features. Also, see alt.video.ptv.tivo

ReplayTV is very much like a standalone TiVo. They have the same
recording capabilities and overall a similar feature set. TiVo has
some things RTV lacks and vice-versa.

Currently the only ReplayTV units are branded RepalyTV - there were
older units sold by Panasonic as well.

For not liking his question, the face value of your response doesn't make a
lot of sense as it did not directly answer his main question. But that's
expected from a pompous ass such as yourself.

Q- "Is replay TV like a Tivo for Cable TV[?]"
A- Yes. Replaytv is like Tivo in that it's for use with cable tv, satelite
tv, or over the air need an antenna tv, but has some features that tivo does
not and lacks some features that tivo has. Replaytv and Tivo have the same
basic purpose and compete for the same market.
