I just got a Fortec receiver for FTA reception using my C/KU lnb's.
Is there anything I *won't* be able to receive with this setup? Will
getting a small dish lnb gain me anything? ie: DISH or DTV free
channels? Thanks

if you have c band lnbs and they're pointed at the right sat then you should
be able to get dish, dont think you can get directTv with a fortec as
DirectTV isnt DVB/nagravision.

check www.lyngsat.com for sat positions, 110, 119 are dish

Nagravision has nothing to do with free channels from Dishnet and FTA
receivers either. I you are thinking of al7bar, that is theft
software.

The music channels on Dish and the Canadian are not scrambled, but you
need a circularly polarized LNB. I got my little dishes and LNBs from
Ebay.

Thanks for the info. I've read elsewhere that some just strap a DSS
LNB to the side of the feedhorn of their big dish with good results.
Doesn't seem like that would be effective though, doesn't it have to
be properly centered, etc?

+++++++++++++

This technique works great. I used it back in the C-band days to
accomodate a Ku-LNB and I have been using it with FTA small dishes now
for some time.

It would probably be measureably better with a spherical dish but it
works great with a parabolic dish also.

If I remember correctly there is a huge research dish located down in
Puerto Rico that is so large that it cannot be physically moved. It is
aimed by moving the receiving device (LNBF) along on suspended rails
above it.

neat!

there is a dish on the market called the superdish, t-55 and t-90 that works
on a somewhat similar approach I think, it allows for up to 5 lnbs and
addition to the main dish has a reflector dish. I dont have mine yet but
I'm thinking it also has a rail for the lnbs to move as desired.
