5040 won't bad hard drive

I upgraded my 5040 with a 250 meg hard drive, it worked great for 6
months.
It will not boot up now. I put the original drive back in and it
worked fine.
I ran a few utils to check the hard drive and it passed. I had lots
of pay per views saved on my old drive and would hate to have this
problem again. I am looking for suggestions? How can I get the shows
off of the drive that doesn't boot in the replay ?

DVArchive, then, should be your friend. You shouldn't use the Replay as
the main storage device; that thing gets a lot of use, and the drive
*will* fail. So pull the stuff off into a computer and burn to DVD.

The drive still may be flaky. If you put the drive in a pc, you can copy
the shows to the pc using extract. If the drive is truly ok, you could
have corrupted the sysytem partition. This is especially true if you
watch live. A Replay will buffer live until the drive is full and all
hell can break loose.

True, in fact one of my 4504's last night decided with my combination of
guaranteed and non-guaranteed recordings that it would run out of buffer
space (again). It suddenly jammed up and rebooted.

Took almost 11 minutes to come up and gave some error about buffer. I
deleted a few recordings. The tuner still failed to kick in, all
channels were blank. A manual reboot on it (with about a 5 minute boot
time this go around) and everything was okay dokey again.

A 250GB drive might take a Looong time to do a system check on if it
goes down in a dirty state, how long did you wait for it to boot?

On my upgraded 250GB I have occasionally seen long reboot times nearing
30 minutes it I crash the system doing something dumb (like too many DVA
transfers while it is still "on"). That usually takes 2-3 restarts with
a lot of patience in between while the system checks the file space.
