Can I use the Linksys WUSB11 USB Network Adapter with WRT54G Broadband
router to download the program guide ? Some time ago I thought I remembered
someone saying the 5040 did not support USB ??? But I DO see a USB port on
the back of the machine ... does it work ?

Thanks ....

The port is not active, you need a bridge.

The USB port on the Replay 5xxx is completely nonfunctional. It
doesn't even supply power. All you get is the connector, not a USB
port.

ok ... well, is it worth getting a high-speed bridge ? what's the speed of
the 5040's internal ethernet port ?

thanks (and thanks to Mark Lloyd for answering as well)

The ethernet port on the Replay is a 100Mbps port (check the
connection LEDs on your hub or switch, many of them show this),
However the software on the Replay is limited to about 10Mbps (it's
usually a lot slower).

Note that wireless adds a significant amount of overhead, limiting you
to about 60% of the stated speed. Range of the wireless devices is
usually much less than advertised too, further limiting speed.

On the Replay, video streaming (to another Replay on your LAN) speed
will be about 240Kbps (for Standard quality, Medium uses twice that,
and High uses thrice that). IVS speed is limited by your internet
connection UPLOAD speed (yours if you're sending, someone else's if
you're receiving). DVArchive can be set to use any speed up to the
maximum (but higher speeds will interfere with local use of that
Replay).
