Greetings,
A few weeks ago DirecTV ran a sweepstakes for a Harmony 676 remote, my
wife was "lucky" enough to win one. Logitech/Harmony tout the fact that this
is user oriented, no macros, just define an action. Well, I want an action
that turns on my TV, wakes up my Pillips PVR/Tivo box and lets me look at
TV. This was trivial to do with my RadioShack remote, easy to set up a
macro. I do not find a way of doing this with the Harmony, there user
service isn't much help though so far I haven't gotten past the first
level/look it up in a book rep. They keep talking about not needing to
power the box Off and On. Anybody out there got this remote (or any Harmony
remote) set with an Action for such a setup?
Thanks,
Doug.

I have the Harmony 659. Shouldn't be that different, and it blows my
old Radio Shack Blue Thingie remote away.

I am confused though, because my Tivo (HDVR2) is ALWAYS on.

Pop me a PM, I'll see if I can't walk you through it.

I'm with them, don't put your TiVo into StandBy mode. That's only needed if
you need to use the RF passthru. Other than that all it really does it turn
off the front LEDs.

On a DirecTV DVR, recording of the live buffer ceases in Standby.
The internal temperature will drop several Celsius degrees in a few hours
while in Standby. Reducing the internal temperature cannot be bad.

A single button press will bring a DVR out of Standby mode. A macro would
be useful for pressing the three buttons needed to put the DVR in Standby.

I bought a 676 and have no problem. I have the "watch TV" button
actually act as a "watch TiVo" button. It turns on the TiVo, turns on
the TV, turns on my surround sound system, sets the TV to have the
proper input for TiVo, and sets the surround sound for the proper input
for TiVo. All with one button.

So what's the problem?

Another button I use is "watch DVD" which sets things up properly for
DVDs. A third is "watch VCR" which sets up for watching the VCR (rarely
used anymore, except for viewing vacation shots).

As it happens, I like the DirecTV TiVo remote better than the Harmony
for actual watching, so I keep that one on the table along with the 676.
However, my wife no longer needs me to change the system from DVD back
to TiVo or vice versa, and our 5 remotes dropped to 2.
