Hard drive failure? Software corruption?

Folks, I have tried to diagnose this one my own by reading the
troubleshooting guide at weaknees.com, Hinsdale, and searching this
group, but I cannot diagnose the trouble.

I have a Series 1 Phillips Tivo. I bought it as a factory
refurbished unit about a year and a half ago.

Overnight, it stopped working. The green light on the unit works,
but nothing else does. When I push the Tivo button on the remote,
nothing happens. The unit has also stopped recording our season pass
programs.

I think the hard drive has failed, but I have also read that it might
be a software corruption.

Any ideas, experts? Please email your reply to darbabi@aol.com as
well as posting to the group.

Thanks a million!

I'm going to guess/hope that a reboot was part of the troubleshooting
process? Also, that making sure all cables are secure. However, this just
begs the question...unless perhaps you've noticed a lack of a red light
(which in and of itself does not mean a program is or is not being
recorded, as I've seen the light on when nothing is recording and off when
something is)...how do you know it isn't recording?

Basically, assuming video out is active, even a completely dead hard drive
should at least result in a permanent gray "Almost there!" screen.

Sorry. Since you have a Tivo that means you're screwed.

For the lucky Tivo owners, their investment in hardware/lifetime
subscription will go slwoly down the drain as it becomes obsolete.

For the unlucky like you the hardware fails and your only recourse
is to crack open your checkbook.
