Hello all a little help please......
Have a direct tv tivo 70 hour and the telephone line was hit by lighting.
all still works except the modem and it tries to anwser all calls
now....(including people calls)I have all ready recorded movies on old
system and insurance will replace the box can I swap out the hard drives or
are they box specific? Can I add the new drive to the new box after prepping
it?

Thanks for any help!

If it's the same generation of hardware, it should work.

You don't need to 'prep' anything if you just mean swapping the old drive
(WITH SHOWS ON IT) for the main drive in the new Tivo.

If it's not a series1 box, you could just hack it to enable the USB ports
and have it make its not-so-daily call via the network instead of the
modem. Might be a cheaper and easier solution.

Other hacks require (and successfully) turn off phone calls, as an
upgrade downloaded could clobber the hacks for pulling off the Video
files.
