What Atari 2600 games do you play?

Assuming you originally had an Atari 2600 when you were younger back in
the early 80's...

Most of us didn't have a huge collection back then. We had what we
could afford to buy. I don't know about the rest of you, but I only had
like about 15 or so game cartridges at any given time (of course, I
"had" a lot more: sometimes I would trade or sell cartridges in my
collection and buy more, etc...)

Of course, later on in life, I was exposed to many, MANY Atari 2600
games that I never even knew existed in the first place, let alone
played or had in my collection back then.

SO.. the question is this: These days, do you find yourself more
playing games that you have "discovered" later in life, or when you go
to grab a handful of games to play, do you usually pick out the ones
that you had in your collection and played a lot when you were a
kid?????

Usually the ones that I had back in the day (Adventure, Superman, Space
Invaders, Super Breakout, Asteroids, Missile Command, Pitfall, River
Raid, Demon Attack, and Kaboom come to mind).

Just for the sake of playing? I'm more likely to stick with the games
I had as younger kid than to get with newer games. There are a few
exceptions like Solaris (got it late '90s but liked it a lot) and a
few homebrewn games.

I pretty much stick to the ones I had back in the 80's -- Space
Invaders, Combat, River Raid, Adventure, Superman, etc... Actually,
without the nastalgia factor I probably wouldn't play any of them.

I too play the games I liked the most and played the most back then, :
Asteroids, Centipede, Ms. Pacman, Defender, Missile Command, Space
Invaders on the VCS; Burgertime, Astrosmash, Lock'n'Chase,
Bump'n'Jump; UFO & KC Munchkin on the Odyssey; Ladybug, Pepper II,
Pac Man, Defender on the Colecovision.

I stick to the core games that I had when I was little. Video Pinball, Yars
Revenge, DK, DK Jr, Enduro, Dodge 'Em, Pooyan, Frogger, Missile Command,
Asteroids, etc. I think that I stick with those, mostly because they give
me that feeling of "WOW! LOOK AT THAT!" that we all had when we first
played our own Atari systems when we were kids. I've tried assloads of
other games, just as most of us collectors have, but I don't think anything
beats the games we all started with, back when the experience was something
we'd never had before.

You know, reading everyone's list of games that they used to play and
still do, I have to say that these lists are not only all very similer,
but they are also strikingly similer to my own...

I that's why these games are all "commons" eh?

I belong to A.C.G.C. (Atlantic Computer and Gaming Club) here in Halifax,
NS. This past weekend we hosted a Atari 2600 Space Invaders ?competition.
I was the one who looked after the whole thing, as I look after the gaming
end of the club, and I had taked a bunch of other Atari 2600 games with me
with a list so that people could pick what they wanted to play besides Space
Invaders. What wurpised me the most was after the competition was finished,
2 youths, aged 8-10 area, sat around and went through every game that I had
brought with me. They spent the better part of 3 hours playing and
replaying Atari 2600 games. And they say the future generation is doomed.

hey Spaceboss or whatever you call yourself.......did you compete in
the 80's" Pier 39 san francisco. I came in 17th. Yeah I know all I got
was a t shirt.(it's framed) I'll tell you though 17 hours of 2600 SI
damn near killed me!I wouldn't trade that experiance for anything
though.

For me, it's a mix, because some of the games I had I enjoy replaying
(Space Invaders, Defender, Berzerk, Yars' Revenge, Seaquest, Piftall!)
and others I got much later after the first age of Atari and found them
to be just as much fun (Pressure Cooker, H.E.R.O., and Road Runner come
to mind).

Well, since 98, EBAY has helped me get BOXED games for the 2600 and I have a
lot of them in the attic. For now, I play emulated games on my PC and my
Pocket PC. I love the Pocket PC version but it is hard to control.

I still love to fire up Adventure and yes, E.T.

What about Jentzsch's Thrust game? That and Star Fire are probably the
two absolute must-play/must-have homebrew titles. Keep up the great
work, XYPE!
