I just ordered mine from lenovo yesterday, I will be using it for college to play games/ homework. It seems to me like an amazing laptop but I don't know about the weight. It weighs around 6 pounds, around 7 with the charge cable. So it's up to you, if weigh isn't an issue I'd recommend it.

how much is cheap? I'm can get this model for around £880 instead of the £1000 base price

well you can get a 17.3' model or a 13.3' model with 2% less graphical power, but an actually decent sized SSD and good wireless card for around £850: http://www.pcspecialist.co.uk/notebooks/optimusV-17/

The reason they include an 8gb ssd is that it is used as an cache memory, so you have a faster hdd. I own this model for a couple of months and i have no problems with it . It can runs all the new games at high or normal ( 1 gpu) and if u get a decent cooling pad you will have no problems with it overheating.

I would wait for the IdeaPad Y50 which is newly announced. It has the latest graphics, Geforce GTX 860M which is even slightly better than GT 750M SLI. So that means, only one card, is cooler, is newer, and more powerful. Other specs are about the same, but it looks cooler and slimmer than the Y510p, and it has a lots of things to upgrade, like SSD and 4K screen etc... Only disadvantage is no DVD drive bay, but who uses CDs these days anyway!

Well i played watch dogs/wolfenstein at medium to high, Bioshock infinite at high. Dota/lol at high . Watchdogs/Wolfenstein are demanding games but if you have a cooling pad the heat will be no problem.
