Hey guys! Lately I've been encountering some lag for a sec or 2 while gaming.
I need to know what causes it.
My specs-
FX 4300 turbo
HD 7790 1gb ASUS Direct CU II edition
4GB 1333 MHz Strontium EVM RAM(Biggest concern for the problem)
500 W GOLD PSU
Any help would be appreciated..

Solution

Then probably your RAM is the issue, I guess you have lot of background processes running...

start with this... download the coretemp program (and also the widget b/c it's easier to view/read)

it will display your core usage temps and also how much of your RAM is being used.

i'd also install afterburner and view your GPU usage... temps... and VRAM usage.

viewing the temps and % usage of all your components should end up being a simple diagnosis of where you're bottleneckking or possibly getting thermal issues causing issues

I have Core Temp And ASUS GPU Tweak installed. The temp's for both CPU and GPU are in the 45 deg celcius range. BUT, The RAM is being used up 98%-99%. would buying 2gb extra ram solve the problem?

Then probably your RAM is the issue, I guess you have lot of background processes running. Whenever I get lag I use Razer Game Booster. It will greatly reduce the RAM usage believe me. You just have to select unnecessary services, processes like windows themes, sidebar widgets, bluetooth, antivirus, browsers, update processes and much more. Once you will exit game you can easily return to your normal mode by just a click. Try this app before buying extra RAM.

Thnx for the reply.! I used the Razer app on my Pentium single core PC a while ago. It worked. I haven't given it a try on my new PC. I will try it and give you the results..

Hey! I used it and it worked. Played it on 1080p and at high settings. at 45 fps. Pretty good. But still, while making quick turns the game freezes for a sec and then resumes. But not always. Maybe it's time for me to Upgrade.! :)
