Solution

Usually there is a sticker on the bottom with a username and password. you go to your router usually 192.168.0.1 in a web browser and then it pulls up the management interface. Lets you change wifi passwords etc.

Yes. On my router the 5GHz bands and the 2.4GHz bands have different names. When I was connected to the 5 my S3 couldn't get on the internet. When I switched over to the 2.4 it could connect and get on the internet.

Okay we need to be on the same page. Routers and modems are different things. They can however be built into the same box sounds like what you have.

Modem plugs into cable/dsl line etc. and converts to Ethernet for use in the house
Router take the ethernet and connect to all devices through wifi/ethernet (routes the ip traffic on your network)
combo boxes basically just plug the modem right into the router in the same box. (probably what you have)

Either way doesn't really matter. do you know how to get to the management interface for your box? Should be printed on the bottom of it
